4 So, if workers used their entire income for taxes, they would not be threw paying them until May.
5 Being that May 5 is the first day people really work for themselves, the study group has some advise.
6 It would like a bill passed naming May 5 “Tax Freedom Day.”
7 On that day, you would give yourself a break, regardless of how hard you worked.

3 Anyone’s life story is filled with fascinating events, and writing them down in the best way you know can give you a sense of accomplishment and, perhaps, leave a valuable inheritance to your family.
4 The first thing to do is to buy a loose-leaf notebook.
5 Each page of the book should be titled with a significant milestone in your life—from your first dog to your proudest moment.
6 You should then jot down a few key words in the book whenever a memory comes back to you. 7 The idea is not to begin with “I was born . . .” and try to write a chronological history of your whole life.
8 Just delve into your passed at random; one memory will trigger another.
9 It will become quite easy after a while.
10 It's also important to write in your own language.

Implicit vs explicit
Explicit: I don't think you should go out with him because I heard that he doesn't have a job and that he just broke up with his long-term girlfriend. Instead, you should look for someone who has a steady job and is looking for a new relationship. I think it will save you a lot of time, instead of wasting it on someone who doesn't want to be with you.
Explicit: Race is still an important consideration in American politics today. I recently heard Preseident Bush speal about hate crimes in school. People are still discriminated against just because of their background. I think everyone should be treated equal unless given a serious reason not to be.
Explicit: Argumentative essays are meant to show your views and opinions and sway your reader to the side you have taken. They want the reader to believe what you believe. My essay took an obvious side, but it just listed why capital punishment should be abolished. I want my reader to take my side and agree that capital punishment should be abolished.
Explicit: Reading "How To Say Nothing in Five Hundred Words," by Paul Roberts, was almost like sitting down and listening to a lecture. There was tons of great and useful information, but I had nothing to relate it to. I wish I could have enjoyed the reading more so I could better understand it and enjoy it.

In Class Assigment
Many of us foolishly object to taking courses in writing. Our notion that only poets and novelists have to write is unrealistic. Students going into the technical or scientific fields, may think that writing is something they seldom have to do, but practicing engineers and scientists say they spend half of their time writing memos and reports. College students going into business think their secretaries will do their writing for them, yet young business people seldom have private secretaries. This attitude shows a naive faith in the competency of their secretaries. Other things being equal, a person in any field who can express ideas clearly is sure to succeed.

Topic Proposal #2
1. In my essay, I am using the local approach to discuss the issue of the recent change in the new DUI laws in South Carolina, and I plan to use a proposal argument in my essay.
2. The DUI laws around South Carolina have always been a problem, but over the past few months they have changed to become stricter and help protect the people of South Carolina. Some people believe that the laws are unfair and to strict, while others, such as law enforcement officers feel they are the right thing to protect the people of South Carolina.
3. I believe the solution would be to keep the laws, and let the people who don’t agree with them just get used to them. The laws need to be strict in order to stop people from drinking and driving and need to be enforced regularly. The only way to get everyone to agree with the new laws is to show that they are working and they really are protecting the people of South Carolina and saving lives.
4. I believe that keeping the laws will help save many lives of citizens in South Carolina. I also think many people would have a more open eye on the issue and not feel so strongly against it. I also think many other states might see what South Carolina is doing and change their laws to the same that we have, and then our whole country would be a safer place against people who choose to drink and drive.
5. I am basing my proposal towards one of the people who agrees fully with the change in the DUI law. I believe it’s going to save many lives, and having lost a close friend and family member to a drunken driving wreck, I want other people to be protected and safe.

In class writing 2
I feel like the campus needs a better driving/pedestrian walking situation. Everytime the crosswalks say to walk, there is still cars coming, honking, and people are always about to get hit. They need to keep the gates by the russel house closed until at least 8 as well because that gets really confusing since there is no stop sign on the way in, and there is also people trying to walk across the steet at the same time. I feel like it could be a lot safer for students and for drivers as well so they don't have to worry about if they are going to hit someone or not.
In-class writing
A major event that has really changed my perspective on life and the dui laws around South Carolina would be two years ago when one of my very close friends was killed in a car wreck by another driver who had been drinking. He was not charged with a DUI though, but only with wreckless driving. If the DUI laws were as strict two years ago as they are today then maybe he would be serving the appropriate time for taking the life of another person. I have also had a cousin who was killed in a alcohol related car crash too, and the driver was not charged nearly as hard as he should have been. Once someone you really care about dies, it makes you think a lot more about certain events and things such as DUI laws.
