Review Questions:
1. One main difference between library subscription databases and the world wide web is that you must obtain a password from the library in order to search for an article. Also, things in a library database service are more reliable and real than things found on the world wide web. Anyone can create a page on the internet and write whatever they want about the topic. Also, inside a library database, you can get anything from an internet page, to a newspaper article, to a journal article that has been written about the topic you are researching.
2. A bibliography is the alphabetically arranged list of evaluated sources you have decided are credible, related to your issue, and potentionally valuable to your research. An annotated bibliogprahy helps you visualize your sources, their basic content, and your reactions to them as a unit of information, gathered together in one place. Annotations can be added in the form of summaries and responses.
3. To figure out if your source is credible or not, there are a few questions to look for: Is the source associated with an organization that is recognized in the field? Is the source listed under a reputable domain? Is the source published in a print or online journal that is peer-reviewed? Is the online source duplicated in print? Is the source accessed by a large number of people? Is the source directed mainly to extremists? Is the evidence in the source stacked to reprsent one point of view? Is the source current? Is the source sloppily edited, undocumented, or unreasonable? Is the source moral or immoral, ethical or unethical according to your values?
4. You should create a research plan to make your research as efficient as possible. Most of your time should be directed reading that will fill in specific parts of your paper. You should first, write out what you already know about the topic and what you want to learn. Then, you should write a claim plus reasons. Make a statement that you want to prove. Then make a list of words associated with your issue that will help you locate sources. Then, think about what you have learned about your audience and write out what your audience needs as a background. Then list the types of materials you plan on using.
5.Plagiarism is when the writer purposely uses someone elses language, ideas, or other original material without acknowledging its source. To avoid it, you can take your own notes, but make sure you get the author of who wrote the source you are using. Also, try to use more of your own idea in your research.
